Social Bookmarking - just getting started?

Tuesday, December 26th, 2006

A nicely written post from the Blog Herald on the rise of social bookmarking in 2006.  If you’re not familiar with what this term means, it’s time to get hip.  Social bookmarking was a very hot trend this year and by all reasonable estimates, it will continue to be a big factor in helping direct web surfers to content they’re interested in.  Expect SB services like digg.com and others to continue to quickly evolve their offerings as the battle for the social continues.

Welcome to the Social - Share This!

Ok, I borrowed a tagline from Zune, but you have to admit it’s kinda catchy.

Alex King released version 1.3 of his Share This plugin for WordPress today and I’ve added it to our site.  This plugin adds a simple text link to each blog entry that lets readers quickly post the article to any one of several social bookmarking services.

New features in version 1.3 include a configurable icon with every link and better support for mobile users and users with JavaScript disabled.

If you haven’t tried social bookmarking yet, it’s a great way to get some additional traffic for your blog and to find new and interesting topics relevant to your online community.  To get started, check out del.icio.us and digg.com.
